Scholastic men’s soccer downs Long Island for gold

Hudson Valley’s scholastic men’s soccer team won its first gold medal since 1997 by beating Long Island 4-2 today at Binghamton University.

Hudson Valley became the first team in Empire State Games scholastic field hockey history to win four straight gold medals today by pulling away for a 2-0 win over Long Island.

Scholastic men’s lacrosse wins bronze

After its game last night ended around 10:30 p.m. following a long weather delay (an 8-7 loss to Central in the gold-medal play-in game), Hudson Valley got up bright and early today and beat Western 7-5 in a bronze-medal game that started at 9 a.m. It was the Valley’s second bronze in the last three years,

As we prepare for today’s big gold-medal games, let’s take a quick look back to some unusual scenarios took place yesterday at the Games. Because they are played over four days (some events get everything done in three), sometimes what is generally speaking a well-done event takes on a bit of a less-than-desired feel because of the crammed nature of the event.

Baseball: Hudson Valley wins gold

Hudson Valley was awarded the gold medal tonight after a nasty storm, which dumped heavy rain and hail the size of golf balls, on Endicott. Adirondack was the silver medalist.

Hudson Valley led the game 2-0 entering the bottom of the second inning when the game was suspended.

Empire State Games baseball chairman Drew Marino met with the coaches and umpires to discuss options during the delay. He said the first option was to wait out the storm and attempt to continue the game tonight (Saturday) if the field was still playable.
